Payment Security Veteran to Lead Outreach and Engagement Efforts in East Asia Region
TOKYO – 2 April 2025 — The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC), a global standards body for the payment card industry, has appointed Junichi Tsuboi to lead its Japan and South Korea outreach efforts to educate and promote the importance of payment security standards within the two countries.
Junichi Tsuboi will serve as Regional Director, Japan and South Korea and will be responsible for driving awareness and adoption of the PCI security standards for payment card security within this East Asian region. Tsuboi-san will work closely with merchants, acquirers, financial institutions, payment service providers, and other key stakeholders across the Japanese and South Korean payment eco-system.
“We are delighted to have Tsuboi-san leading our efforts in these two important markets,” said Yew Kuann Cheng, Regional Vice President, Asia-Pacific for the PCI Security Standards Council. “Tsuboi-san’s experience makes him a great selection to be leading our efforts to promote good, sound payment security standards within Japan and South Korea. Having Tsuboi-san join our team continues our momentum in this region in bringing together payment stakeholders around promoting good payment security practices.”
“I am excited to have this unique opportunity and look forward to continuing my payment industry work with the PCI Security Standards Council,” said Junichi Tsuboi. “The PCI SSC’s global security standards are highly regarded and utilized by stakeholders across Japan and South Korea. Cybersecurity is critical to both economies. Japan’s e-commerce market is the fourth largest in the world and South Korea’s e-commerce market is growing rapidly. Strong payment security standards and trainings are critical to helping us guard against the cybercriminals who would do us harm.”
“Tsuboi’s background working with global payment networks, and his 28 years in the payments industry, gives him a unique perspective into the challenges facing the payments industry in the East Asia region today and into the future,” said Gina Gobeyn, Executive Director of the PCI Security Standards Council.
Mr. Junichi Tsuboi holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Kyoto Sangyo University. Prior to joining PCI SSC, Tsuboi worked in several management roles for Mastercard. In his free time, Mr. Tsuboi enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.
